Do You know if Your Drivers are Breaking the Law?

Thanks to the great work of Gary Mahon at the Queensland Transport Association, owners of vehicles registered in Queensland will soon have the option to be notified when a driving offence has occurred with their vehicle. Notification will occur once the fine has been paid, referred to SPER (for debt collection and further action from non-payment) or finalised in court.

The notification to the registered owner will include the following information

  • Driver’s name

  • Offence

  • Date, time and location of offence

The registered owner will need to advise the Department of Transport and Main Roads of an email address to send the notifications.

In the meantime, consider how you are going to integrate this information into your current CoR, safety and training framework. For example:

  • How will these changes be communicated to your team?

  • What reporting processes will need to be put in place, including any reporting to senior managers and directors?

  • How will patterns and trends be identified and acted upon?

The legislation is currently in government for debate and could be presented to parliament at the next sitting. Should the amendment be successful, modifications will need to be made to the Transport and Main Roads website to allow registered owners to advise their nominated email address.

This is one part of a suite of tools that every business needs to have in place to manage driver and subcontractor compliance.
