Despite what Scrabble says, I think the "how" is at least as important as the "what". People remember far longer how you made them feel rather than what you achieved.
That is why I like to encourage my direct reports to discuss their successes and challenges in demonstrating personal and company values in our monthly one on ones.
I also feel that talking about values at each monthly one on one makes them more alive to me and my team, rather than relegating them to a sign on a noticeboard where they can easily become wallpaper.
